Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian singer-songwriter. She has released more than 20 albums. DiFranco categorizes her music under the terms folk-rock and alternative. However, it has influences from punk, hip-hop and jazz. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement, and was among the first artists to create her own label the year 1990. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who came across Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian descent, and her mother hails from Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors, was composed by her and is performed by Ani. The track was first released on her 1995 sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl. The song was featured in the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. In 2013, DiFranco apologized when it was revealed that she would be hosting a three-day workshop in an old Louisiana plantation for slaves. It was cancelled but many (including this paper) didn't detect remorse. DiFranco offered an apology only a few days after. Although she is known for her role as the Little Folksinger her music spans many kinds of genres and collaborates across the spectrum from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. The singer lives in New Orleans. Ani diFranco, and Kristen Ford are together. When she was 14, she started to compose her own music. They were played in bars and coffee houses throughout her teenage years. DiFranco started taking courses in Buffalo State College at age 16 following her graduation from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. Her new baritone is custom-built by Alvarez guitar, designed by Chrys Johnston, who at the time was an Alvarez artist rep. It's an System 600 guitar with solid woods - cedar on top, mahogany for the back and sides, and Ebony for the fretboard. DiFranco admits she's ambivalent to the thought of looking at her career retrospectively, even though it's been three decades. Ani DiFranco, a writer and musician from the punk/folk genre, was only 25 when she released her 7th album Not A Pretty Girl and achieved even more success in the music industry with Dilate.
